Repertoire The repertoire of "Polonia" comprises Polish national dances as well as numerous dances and folk songs from different regions of Poland. The young dancers, first and second generation Americans of Polish decent, are proud to present authentic, energetic and interesting performances and give audiences the true essence of Polish music, dance, folkgames and customs. "Polonia" ensemble has twelve complete suites of dance choreographed by Celina Roznowska (former organizer and for 30 years the director and choreographer of folk song and dance ensemble "Warmia" in Olsztyn, Poland). All dance suites are choreographed for 6 to 18 couples, each in unique, handmade and colorful costumes Beautiful Poland – multi-Regional Suite of Songs and Dances This multi-regional suite displays the diversity in Polish folk dancing and a beautiful variety of 12 Polish folk costumes from different regions of Poland. Every region is represented by separate dance and song characteristic of their region. Gaik (Maypole) Festival Dance and song symbolize the rebirth of life. Girls decorate a pine branch with colorful ornaments to greet spring. The branch is a symbol of strength and vitality and is walked around the village a day after Easter. Suite from the Region of Lublin (Costumes from Lublin) Festive wedding dances, including popular walking Mach, the fast moving Cygan and finally the exciting Oberek from Poland's eastern border. They vary in tempo and mood. The dancers constantly change the direction of movement. Kujawiak and Oberek (Costumes from Lowicz) Two national dances combined: a slow, romantic, lyrical kujawiak builds into a lively oberek with music full of life and temperament. The costumes from Lowicz region are some of the most beautiful in all of Poland, rich on colorful woven patterns and ornate embroidery. The colorful stripes on the women's skirts and aprons and on the men's pants represent the farmers' fields. Polonez - National Dance  A national dance characterized by dognity and stateliness, The dance had its origins from the Folk dance"Chodzony", meaning Walking Dance. This dance dates back to the early 15th century. The Polonez was a favorite dance to open Balls and court festivities. Scene from the Town Square of Krakow, Krakowiak Dances, the Entrance of the Lajkonik and Final - Krakowiak - National Dance (Costumes from Krakow) The Krakowiak is one of the most popular and characteristic Polish folk dances originated in Krakow, the previous capitol of Poland. The dance has many steps and figures. The songs that accompany the dance speak of love, war, and praise the richness of the costume, the charm of the girls, or beauty of the Krakow townscape. The dancers concentrate around Lajkonik (horse and rider) in merry celebration. The most distinctive elements of their rich costume are long peacock feathers in the male dancers’ hats and jingling brass bells attached to their belts. Suite from the Region of Silesia (Costumes from Silesia) Dances originated in the coal-filled Gorny Slask (Upper Silesia) region in the mid-south of Poland include the trojak, waltz, zajaczek (rabbit) and mietlosz. Warsaw Visage A turn of the Century street dances and melodies. Performed in the marketplaces and city square to the street band in Warsaw in pre-war Poland. Suite of Songs and Dances from the Region of Rzeszow  From Poland's south-east this dance features beautiful costumes combined with the eye-catching spins and turns of this region. The many varied polkas are done to simple flirtatious and teasing songs between men and women. Kashubian Dance The Kaszuby region is the part of Pomerania region on the north coast of the Baltic Sea. The Kashubian dances are influenced by the movement of the sea. They are gentle, joyful and graceful. They were danced during various events in the life of the Kashubian people. The best known are: Maruszka, Rebacki tonc, Koses,  Krzyznik , Dzek. Folk Songs The groups performe variety of polish Christmas carols & traditional folk songs from different regions of Poland.
